Over the Weekend the iHeartRadio Music festival featured a long list of great performances but one the stood out from all the rest. Mary J. Blige was joined by non other than Prince, who just happened to be wearing yellow bell-bottom pants, a blouse matching his guitar, some very interesting looking shades and an afro. Yesterday LL Cool J, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Busta Rhymes and Mary J. Blige were among the extended family members who helped lay hip-hop manager Chris Lighty to rest (Wednesday) at his funeral in Manhattan. An emotional LL — who had once been a client of Lighty’s — told MTV News after the service that his former manager was a “jewel” and a “treasured person in the community.” The rapper added that Lighty was an “architect of our culture,” but he was also a friend. During the ceremony, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes and other artists also shared their personal memories of Lighty. The 44-year-old died last Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Yall let me say this it seems like every time I come to New Orleans it is funny drama, and hell at first, mostly cause I don’t handle my business but I think this years trip tops them all… Just thankful I am here and a live. Last night Mary J. Blige, Charlie Wilson, D’Angelo and Aretha Franklin are just a few of the artists making their way to the Big Easy this weekend for the Essence Music Festival.
The New Orleans event is under way now, with organizers kicking things off Thursday with “Youth Day.”
Last night featured performances from Wilson and D’Angelo, (WOW he had a great show) as well as Trey Songz, Keyshia Cole and the Pointer Sisters.
On Saturday, Blige will top a bill that also includes Ledisi, Tank, Mary Mary and comedian Kevin Hart. Chaka Khan will close things out on Sunday, following performances from Aretha Franklin, Anthony Hamilton, Fantasia and Kirk Franklin.
