McDonald’s Corporation announced today that it would be reducing the the portions of fries by half and replacing them with apples in their Happy Meals. The changes will start in September and will be available in all 14,000 of its US restaurants by early 2012. Parents will also have the option of requesting vegetables in place of french fries, as well as 1 percent milk or fat-free chocolate milk in place of a soft drink. The fast-food chain also plans on cutting the amount of sodium in all food by 15 percent by 2015. First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed the news, saying the decision “is a positive step toward solving childhood obesity.”
With McDonald’s cutting the calories, will they also be cutting the prices?
