It looks as if the cancellation of Rosie O’Donnell’s OWN talk show was just the beginning of cutbacks at the Oprah Winfrey Network. The cable channel is laying off 30 staffers in what’s being described as a restructuring of the network’s operations in Los Angeles and New York. In a press release Winfrey said as CEO she has a responsibility to “chart the course for long-term success for the network” and that the layoffs are a “necessary next step.”

Winfrey took over as CEO and Chief Creative Officer of OWN eight months ago. Having struggled in the ratings during its first several months on air, OWN has been enjoying an upswing since September with Winfrey’s own series, “Oprah’s Next Chapter,” leading the charge. The show took the number one spot among all cable networks with its broadcast of Oprah’s interview with Whitney Houston’s family on March 11th. OWN announced the cancellation of “The Rosie Show” last Friday citing flagging ratings.

Oprah and Lady GaGa recently sat down for an episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter for an intament understanding os what be going threw the pop star’s mind. In the interview Gaga opened up talking about several topics, including her desire for her own Little Monsters, how she deals (or doesn’t) with the media, and the one thing that scares her. Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network is enjoying record ratings following her interview with the late Whitney Houston’s family. “The Hollywood Reporter” says Sunday night’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter” was the most-watched telecast in the network’s brief history with three-point-five-million viewers. The hour and a half broadcast also scored a three-point-one rating in the coveted demo of women aged 25 to 54. Sunday’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter” continues a surge in the ratings for OWN. Last month the network posted substantial year to year growth, improving 12 percent in primetime and 29 percent for the entire day.

Last weekend’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter” featured Oprah speaking with Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, about how she’s dealing with her mother’s death. Whitney’s brother, Gary Houston, and her manager and sister-in-law, Pat Houston, also discussed the singer’s final days and her marriage to Bobby Brown.

Whitney Houston’s 19-year-old daughter continues to try to deal with the loss of her mother. Bobbi Kristina spoke with Oprah Winfrey Sunday night on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” and said she still has a hard time listening to her mom’s music. READ MORE

Oprah Winfrey is on a trip to South Asian, India, where her bodyguards got into a scuffle with local photographers.

According to sources, Oprah was visiting a center where there were child widows abandoned by their family. During her time there, local photographers tried to get inside to take her shot when they got into trouble with her bodyguards.

Winfrey is 57 year’s old and looking great.  She is in the middle of a week-long trip to India filming for Oprah’s Next Chapter, a program on her OWN channel.
Source added that one cameraman was manhandled by Oprah’s security guards as he climbed up to a wall to film the media mogul. In response, the journalists threw stones. Police arrived on spot but they held Oprah’s bodyguards until they wrote an apology letter to the journalists for their behavior.

Oprah Winfrey Network scored its highest ratings ever with the second episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on Sunday’s,  (9-10 p.m. ET/PT).

The episode, featured “America’s Pastor” Joel Osteen at his home in Houston, Texas, garnered 1.6 million total viewers and a 1.3 rating in the key women 25-54 demo, ranking #3 in its time period among ad-supported cable networks. Here are some more pic’s from her trip.
