“The Bodyguard” To Return To Theaters For 20th Anniversary

“The Bodyguard” is returning to theaters later this month for one night only. NCM Fathom Events and Warner Brothers are teaming up to present a special theatrical screening of the 1992 movie to mark the film’s 20th anniversary. The film will be broadcast to more than 400 select movie theaters around the country on March 28th. Warner Brothers will also release “The Bodyguard 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray,” one day before the special screening, on March 27th. There has been renewed interest in “The Bodyguard” and its soundtrack in recent weeks due to the sudden passing of its star, singer Whitney Houston, last month. But the film’s re-release is not being billed as much as a tribute to the pop star as it’s being billed as an opportunity to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

“The Bodyguard” starred Houston in her acting debut as a singer who hires an ex-Secret Service agent, played by Kevin Costner, to protect her from a stalker. The film grossed more than 410-million-dollars during its original theatrical run in 1992. “The Bodyguard” soundtrack, featuring Houston’s mega-hit ballad “I Will Always Love You,” became one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time.
