Michael Jackson’s concert rehearsal documentary “This Is It” is in awards contention. The film is among the nominees unveiled for Best Documentary Feature for the 15th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards. It will take on the films “Anvil,” “Capitalism: A Love Story,” “The Cove,” and “Food Inc.” “This Is It” focuses on the “King of Pop’s” rehearsals for his 50-show run at London’s O2 Arena that was slated to start in July. The concert series was never to be, as the singer unexpectedly died of cardiac arrest on June 25th. “This Is It” hit theaters for a limited two-week run on October 28th, but due to its incredible popularity, the film was extended through the Thanksgiving weekend. To date, “This Is It” has grossed more than 250-million-dollars worldwide.
Lee Daniels’ critically-acclaimed film “Precious” also picked up a few Critics Choice nominations on Monday. “Precious” will look to take home the Best Picture award, while the film’s leading lady, Gabourey Sidibe, is up for Best Actress. Mo’Nique is up for Best Supporting Actress, while Lee Daniels is nominated for Best Directing. “Precious” is also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
