Today Troy Davis was denied a stay of exection by the Georgia board of pardons. Troy Davis was convicted of killing an off duty police officer, Mark MacPhail, 20 years ago. Many believe that he was wrongly convicted and have fought to help him. Thousands of people came together to protest his execution and marched through Atlanta to Ebenzer Baptist Church (who held a service to support him). The Associated Press says:
Two defense lawyers say Georgia’s board of pardons has rejected a bid to spare the life of Troy Davis, who has attracted high-profile support for his claim that he was wrongly convicted of killing a police officer in 1989.
Steve Hayes, spokesman for the Board of Pardons and Paroles, said Tuesday the panel decided to rejected Davis’ request for clemency after hearing hours of testimony from his supporters and prosecutors.
This situation brings great sadness as Troy Davis will be executed tomorrow! What are your thoughts and feelings on this matter? What’s your opinion on capital punishment?
sad.. i signed the petition..feels sorry to kill and possibly innocent
This is ridiculous!! So two wrongs do make a right? I’m not saying he’s guilty or innocent but for the government to say its wrong for us to kill someone but if you do we will kill you is wrong!! No matter what no man has the right to take another man’s life!!
The only reason the death penalty exists is to satisfy man’s desire for retribution, racism, revenge and re-election. It’s disgusting.
