Martina Davis Correia, the sister of Troy Davis, has died.
While she was popularly known for her being an anti-death penalty advocate, she had been battling breast cancer since the age of 31.
In addition to being an advocate against the death penalty she also got her views across as the chair of the Steering Committee for Amnesty International USA’s Program to Abolish the Death Penalty.
She was Amnesty International’s coordinator in Georgia for the death-penalty program and really nice person.
Way to raise some noise!
There are many people mourning her death including Curt Goering, the chief operating officer of Amnesty International USA, who says:
Our hearts are breaking over the loss of this extraordinary woman. She fought to save her brother’s life with courage, strength and determination, every step of the way. She was a powerful example of how one person can make a difference as she led the fight for justice for Troy Davis, even as she endured her own decade-long battle with cancer.
She was a tenacious fighter, a graceful inspiration to activists everywhere, and a true hero of the movement for human rights. At this sorrowful time, we at Amnesty International offer our profound sympathy to her family.
This is such as sad situation.
While death is never a happy situation, you have to find the positivity in this situation knowing that she died fighting for a positive cause and trying to help others.
What’s your take on this?
