Vanessa Simmons has been very low key when it comes to media this year, but that’s because she’s been working on some big projects. GlobalGrind reports the 28 year old has been using her fashion sense to create a women’s swimwear line, and now it’s ready to be debuted.

The line, called “Rose by Vanessa Jean,” is set to make its big debut at Mercedes Benz fashion week in Miami later this month.

The swimwear is specially designed to show off women’s natural curves of all shapes and sizes in pieces that are colorful and flirty to capture the eye.

The budding entrepreneur has recently said of her new line:

“Rose by Vanessa Jean is my passion, I’m extremely excited to debut with such an amazing event as Mercedes Benz Fashion Week! I’m looking forward to not only the debut but having women wearing and enjoying the trendsetting and unique designs I’ve created with them in mind.”

The new lingerie line, which launches sometime this July, is sure to be a hit. Loop 21 caught up with Simmons to talk about her new line, the Simmons family and how she keeps it all together.

Loop 21: You’ve had a lot of success with Pastry and other ventures. Why the need for this new lingerie line?

Simmons: Creating Pastry was a great experience for me, I learned so much and it’s a bond that [my sister] Angela and I will always share. However, with this line I really wanted to accomplish something new. I want to help other women celebrate their beauty. I want to show that there’s a distinct distance between just a piece of lingerie and an intimate experience.

Loop 21: A lot of celebrities say they’re fashion designers, but have no real input into the design process. What is your level of involvement?

Simmons:  A while ago I started designing my own corsets and other pieces. Friends and people would say, ‘Where’d you get that?’ I realized I had something unique to bring to the equation when that kept happening. I have a great team of experts who are wonderful, but I’m involved in the entire process from start to finish.

Loop 21: Why the name Rose?

Simmons: Rose reminds me of what a woman represents. It’s beautiful, delicate, but at the same time, it has thorns. Those thorns represent a woman’s journey and show that she has a story to tell. No matter the size, shape, color or where she comes from, every woman has a story.

Loop 21:  I know you hear it all the time, but I have to ask: How does The Rev. feel about it?

Simmons: To be honest at first my dad didn’t say anything about it, but he has let me know that he totally supports me. I’m not trying to get out there and just be like, ‘Strip!’ I think my dad understands that.

Loop 21: Speaking of family, America is obsessed with powerful ones like yours. What’s it like to be a part of it when the cameras are turned off?
