We all know Trinidad James the “All Gold Everything” rapper, but did we know that he was also apart of making the up beat dance song “Uptown Funk.”
Yes, Trinidad James contribution comes in the form of writing for the chorus part of the song, according to billboard.com. The funky spontaneous party going song won Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at this years 58th Grammys. The award was received by Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars and the rest of the tracks production team, but no Trinidad James. In an interview with Complex, a Recording Academy rep said “songwriters do not share in the nomination for a Grammy Award in a Record of The Year.”
So apparently if it was a Song of The Year win then Trinidad James would’ve gotten his credit. Even though James did not get the award recognition he still got his piece of the pie when it came to earnings. According to reports, it was a total of 11 songwriters who splits $12 million, and James gets eight percent which totals to $150k.
