It will be several weeks before authorities can announce an official cause of death for music superstar Whitney Houston. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed Sunday that an autopsy had been performed on the singer, a day after she was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed Houston was found in a bathtub in her room, but would not confirm reports suggesting she drowned. He also said there were no signs of foul play. Winter did not comment on questions about whether Houston had taken any medications or if any medications were present in the room. He said there would be more updates during the week.
Houston was found Saturday afternoon at the hotel. The 48-year old singer was to attend a pre-Grammy’s event Saturday night.
Whitney Houston took the stage for one final time last Thursday night. The music icon performed at the Kelly Price & Friends pre-Grammy concert where she sang “Yes, Jesus Loves Me.”
Kelly Price tells “Rolling Stone” that it’s fitting that “Yes, Jesus Loves Me” was Whitney’s last performance because “she’s a church girl.” Price says she had a wonderful time with Whitney on Thursday night, noting that they “laughed, danced, sang and cried.” Kelly adds that Whitney appeared to be in great spirits last week, explaining that “there was no craziness going on.”
Whitney Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel room on Saturday. A cause of death has not been announced, but sources have told TMZ.com that Whitney may have drowned in the bathtub. Results from an autopsy in the case are pending. Whitney Houston was 48.
