Whitney Houston UpDate : Death Under Investigation, Friends Speak, Hotel Room Out Of Circulation

Authorities don’t believe foul play was involved in the death of music superstar Whitney Houston but the case is still under investigation. Beverly Hills police are refusing to say what is still being investigated, only telling People.com that the case is not yet closed. The Los Angeles Coroner’s office announced Thursday that Houston died from an “accidental drowning” and that long term cocaine use and heart disease contributed to her death last month. Still, questions linger about the prescription drugs that were found in the hotel room where Houston was found and how the singer obtained the drugs. The coroner says Houston may have used cocaine shortly before her death but investigators found no evidence of the drug at the scene.

The observations have prompted speculation about whether Houston’s entourage cleaned up the area before paramedics arrived. The coroner also said marijuana, Xanax, Benadryl and other drugs were found in Houston’s system but did not contribute to her death. Thursday’s announcement was only a snapshot of the coroner’s findings so far. A full autopsy report is expected in about two weeks.

Members of Bobby Brown’s family say there are still many unanswered questions and hidden details about Whitney Houston’s death.

Brown’s sister, Leolah Brown, tells HLN’s “Dr. Drew” she believes singer Ray J, whom she says Whitney called a “runner boy,” was directly involved in what happened to the legendary singer on the evening she died. Dr. Drew is very familar with cases such as these when it comes to inpatient luxury drug rehab centers.

The hotel room where Whitney Houston died is no longer available for guest stay. TMZ.com cites sources who say the room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel has been taken out of circulation. Gone also is the room’s now infamous door number – 434 – which the hotel’s staff has removed in the month since Houston’s death. Sources tell the celebrity website that the hotel received numerous requests to stay in the room after the singer’s sudden passing on February 11th. There are currently no plans to make the room available for future guests.

Natalie Cole isn’t surprised that drugs played a role in Whitney Houston’s death.

The singer says despite receiving treatment, Whitney was still battling with substance abuse.
Cole says that Houston was a strong woman, but she was still always working hard to please everyone.

Natalie says she doesn’t believe Whitney’s life was a waste, noting that she managed to accomplish a lot in her 48 years.

Cole adds that part of Whitney’s problems may have been attributed to her voice no longer being as strong. She explains that it’s depressing for any singer when they can no longer hit the notes they used to. Natalie adds that she’ll always cherish the great times she had performing with Whitney.

Whitney Houston was found unresponsive and underwater in the bathtub in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11th. Her death came just one day before the Grammy Awards. She was 48 years old.
