After Lifetime and Wendy Williams did a questionable job with casting and portraying the princess Aaliyah in her biopic last month, we’re hoping they’ll do better by Whitney fans with the upcoming Whitney made for TV movie.  The Whitney Houston biopic has been scheduled for a January 17th release date.

In the upcoming Whitney story, directed by Angela Bassett, Yaya DaCosta will play the legendary singer from New Jersey.  Vocals will be performed by Deborah Cox.

The movie is expected to highlight the relationship between Bobby Brown and Whitney, including how they met.

Following the movie’s premiere, Lifetime will air the hour-long documentary “Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston” at 10/9c, providing an in-depth look at the life and death of Houston. Interviews with friends – including longtime friend Darlene Love – colleagues and industry insiders will offer personal reflections and insight into the life and career of this American songstress and the tragic circumstances of her downfall. “Beyond the Headlines: Whitney Houston” is produced by Peacock Productions.
