Woman ‘Willingly & Knowingly’ Seized Carlina White, Indicted On Kidnapping Charge
The woman accused of snatching 3-week-old Carlina White from New York’s Harlem Hospital more than 20 years ago – and then raising the child as her own in Connecticut – has been indicted on a kidnapping charge. I know Carlina is lost right now cause it seems like no matter what she still loses… I wonder will she be on Oprah???
On Thursday, the federal grand jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Ann Pettway, 49, “willfully and knowingly” seized the child, reports CNN. Pettway turned herself in last month, FBI spokesman William Reiner said.
Currently being held without bail, Pettway is expected to enter a plea at a hearing scheduled for Feb. 24. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years to life in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
According to court documents filed last month, Pettway admitted to taking the girl in 1987 after suffering several miscarriages. White became suspicious when Pettway could never produce her birth certificate or Social Security card.
The young woman solved the mystery of her background and tracked down her birth parents earlier this year, though in a recent interview, her mother, Joy White, said that she and her daughter, now 23, are again estranged.
The schism apparently developed after Carlina discovered her parents had gone through a $750,000 negligence settlement from Harlem Hospital.

She should be greatful she located her biological parents, instead she allowed money to clout her mind… It was sad to see her biological mother on the Today Show sobbing because she is estranged from her yet again… Carlina’s family said it was a miracle that things happened this way. I was shocked that money distant her from her real family I would assume that a $750,000.00 settlement (that had time restraints with age) would not be as greater than than being intouch with her REAL family. I’m sure she is going through an identity crisis but money should not rule weather or not she has a genuine relationship with her parents! For example Some producer at NBC or anybody could have put her inline with doing an Oprah Show, A Lifetime Movie, A book Bio of their story, Mayor Bloomberg handing her a check worth millions and/ or Connecticut handing her a check for dropping the ball when the kidnapper told them the truth… Just to name a few… I’m not saying she should abandon her 2nd family for whom she had known for 23 years but give your REAL family a chance… You never know what type of blessings are instore for you…

I DON’T GET THE BIG DEAL ABOUT HER REAL PARENTS GETTING A SETTLEMENT FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM. SHE SUFFERED BUT SO DID THEY. SHE NEEDS TO GET OVER THAT BS. THEY DIDN’T EVEN KNOW IF THEY’D EVER SEE HER AGAIN. THIS IS TRUELY SAD AND I FEEL TERRIBLE FOR THE MOTHER. GOD BLESS THEM ALL…….JENNY JONES!!!!

For you Carlina, you are a beautiful lady. I could not imagine of losing my own daughter and your parents were very sick. They lost you when you were new born and ill. That woman (Anne Petaway needs to go to jail. They stole your parents the rights to sit up with you when you were sick, scold you when you were naughty, and comfort you when you were sad, You are very intelligent. According to the media you have bonds that ties you to the other family. But, you were abused and how did she get past school? Doctors visits…

She did not have anything to do with the money. But, it is her. I am sure her parents are glad to see her after years of upset. No money could be worth my daughter not being with me.

A trust fund was what the money was for, on Carolina’s name. Her mom, Joy, had her at 16 in 1987. Joy wouldn’t have been able to manage/handle $750,000.00…
