News broke Friday of a shooting that occurred around 9:20 AM involving rapper Beanie Sigel and we’ve learned that according to police, Sigel was hit in the stomach by a bullet that traveled out of his back after attempting to break up an altercation near his home in Pleasantville, New Jersey.

Sigel, whose real name is Dwight E. Grant, was returning home from dropping his children off at school and according to his attorney, Fortunato Perri Jr., was not the intended target of the shooting. According to NBC 10, there have been no arrests and a second man victim, 22-year-old Umar Salahuddin, the brother-in-law of Sigel, provided very limited information when questioned and was not cooperating with authorities. Salahuddin reportedly was injured but not shot in the altercation.

Hospital officials report that Sigel is awake following being rushed into surgery and is doing better. Pleasantville police officials plan to obtain a statement from Sigel regarding the incident. Furthermore, Jennifer Tornetta, a spokeswoman for the hospital caring for Sigel, advises that the family requested that no more information on Sigel’s current condition be revealed at this time.

Our prayers are with Sigel and his family and we hope he makes a full recovery.
