BET is being accused of violating another network’s exclusive broadcast rights. TV One filed a lawsuit last Friday claiming BET aired a “rogue” broadcast of the 2010 Essence Music Festival this past June. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” TV One spent several hundred thousand dollars this year and last year for the rights to the Essence Music Festival.
They say they’re the only ones allowed to broadcast the 2010 show until 2014, but BET allegedly aired last year’s ceremony just one week before the 2011 Essence Music Festival. TV One claims that by airing last year’s show, BET devalued their programs, undercut their agreements, and damaged relationships with advertisers.
TV One is now seeking injunctive relief and damages for copyright infringement. Why can’t my black TV networks just work together… LOL
BET devalued their programs
i dont understand, so people watch it and see how suck it is and then decided not attend the festival. i just want to know what facts to they have that by BET airing last years how that it “devalued their programs”
I never been to the festivsl but I would love to go
The festivals are really good, but my question is I thought TVone and BET were somehow linked under the same umbrella. I guess not. Needless to say, the footage that both showed were subpar at best. I expected alot more from BOTH networks, but thats another axe to grind…..
Whoa BET not a good look…yall bout to lose some major $$$$ over this one
I hope TVONE get 10’s of millions. BET has bullshittin programming on now. Instead of uplifting the black community, they have defamed us. GET that money TVONE. LOL
To be totally honest Bet is now powered by viacom which owns mtv and ish so technically…its not owned by black folk anymore and to be honest……….some people are just low down and greedy like that
