DMX’s woeful week is getting worse. Just days after being picked up on suspicion of DUI, the rapper filed for Chapter Eleven bankruptcy protection. In court documents obtained by the “Wall Street Journal,” DMX — whose real name is Earl Simmons — claims he has less than 50-thousand dollars in assets and owes between one-million and ten-million-dollars. In a statement, the rapper’s rep, Domenick Nati, says DMX’s financial woes have been “inhibiting his career for several years” and has also caused him to become ineligible to retain a passport. Nati says the rapper hopes filing for bankruptcy helps him reorganize his finances so he can perform in an overseas tour this fall.
Last Friday, DMX was arrested in Greenville, South Carolina for suspicion of driving under the influence. The rapper’s camp later released a statement saying he had not been charged for DUI because he passed a breathalyzer test.
