Atlanta’s Civic Center held a Holy Ghost Party Tuesday night for Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound. We went to church and had a ball praising GOD to the beat of some of our favorite Gospel singers.
Check it out below.
The Atlanta Civic Center took in thousands of attendees for Verizon’s annual Gospel Choir competition, How Sweet The Sound. Oh how sweet it was. Area choirs galvanized to give the judges wardrobe presentation, choreography and of course vocals. Out of 6 choirs competing, delivering vocal dynamics from heavy vibrato to extended crescendo to sporadic modulation. Also, the showmanship appeared well rehearsed with choirs showcasing moves that emulated The Matrix to just executing cultural rhythm.
How Sweet The Sound committee made the evening economically feasible and gave way more than what was paid for. With performances from all the Gospel recording headliner judges.
Hezekiah Walker opened with his latest hit ‘Every Praise’ causing magnetic crowd participation.
Followed by the prolific Donald Lawrence & songbird Yolanda Adams (who hosted the show) with their new Gospel duet, ‘Best For Last’.
The power house Tamela Mann then took us To The King, putting a twist on the suffix of the song with a snippet of the classic , I Surrender All.
Vashawn Mitchell blessed us with a medley of ‘Nobody Greater’ and his new smash hit “Greatest Man”. Lastly, one-fourth of the legendary Clark Sisters, Dorinda Clark-Cole gave us her raspy, riffing, churchy sound for, ‘Take It Back’. Boy did she get her praise on in high heels.
All the Civic Center was missing last night was a cross on top of it and those Liscannor church windows. Nevertheless, all the participants are winners but it’s only……….no scratch that cliche’ .
All were NOT winners, there was only one and we would like to congratulate ‘Darryl Izzard & Christ in You’ on their double victory of being The Peoples Choice winner of $5000.00 via the audience and the regional winners of $10,000.00 via the celebrity judges. They ushered in the Holy Spirit with their rendition of Richard Smallwood’s classic, Total Praise. I know their pastor is ecstatic because I researched that the checks go directly to the church name.I wonder if the choir members feel sort of Tina Turner ‘ish’.
