A pair of music legends are joining forces to help USC students attempt to break into the industry. Dr. Dre and music mogul Jimmy Iovine are donating 70-million dollars to USC for the construction of a new music academy.
The core curriculum will feature areas such as arts and entrepreneurship and technology, with the hope of giving students the necessary tools to move from classroom to studio effortlessly. Dr. Dre says he wishes there had been an academy like this when he was growing up trying to make it in the business.
Iovine says his connections in the industry tell him they need college kids with an understanding of the new technology that fills the world of music today and he hopes the academy will be a jumping-off point for many students eyeing a career in the industry.
