I was very shocked when I caught wind of this one.
Apparently, a girls basketball team from Kenmore East High School thought it was a good idea to use the n-word in their pregame chant.
Too bad their only black team mate, Tyra Batts didn’t think so. After Batts had asked them to stop using the word because she didn’t like it, she finally blew up and beat one of the white team mate’s up.
However, it is this fight that brought more media attention and additional details out. Read more inside to get more details on this surprising situation.
How’s this for a laugh: Before games all of the girls would hold hands, then yell “One, two, three, N-word!”. After the first time they did this, Tyra told them, “You’re not allowed to say that word because I don’t like that word”. And they replied back, “You know we’re not racist, Tyra. It’s just a word, not a label”. Hmph. While it may have just been a word to them, they clearly knew that it was wrong as they only said the word when the coach was NOT around. The n-word wasn’t the only thing they said that insulted Tyra Batts either. She told media outlets that their conversations had phrases such as “cotton picking, slavery and shackles”.
I guess enough was enough when one of the white teammates called Batts “black piece of [expletive]â€. The following Monday at school, Batts found the girl and picked a fight with her which ended with the white teammate being punched and choked repeatedly. After this occurrence, Batts was suspended. Thankfully, she didn’t take this punishment without a fight and spoke to school adminstrators about the situation. Her fight came out with the entire team being suspended and their next game being cancelled. Her principal apologized to her and her family and issued an official statement saying, “This type of insensitivity to one of our students is wrong, unacceptable, unfortunate, and will never, ever be tolerated”. Sounds good.
I’m not sure how to feel about this situation. While the suspension and public apology is nice, it really sheds light on how our society is while there are always chants of “pushing for diversity”. I think it is so unfortunate that this young girl had to endure such treatment and on the other hand not sure how these other girls will understand the importance of accepting other regardless of race if they only received 2 days of suspension. I think she could have handled the situation better, but the white team mate, I believe, got what was coming to her. If the girl asked for them to stop saying that word, why couldnt they stop???
This was brewing and should of been reported sooner. Those girls plotted and hated and should learn from this.
i bet the principal was/is down low condoning this racial slur but had to act after the girl took her case to higher authorities.

WOW, THAT IS CRAZY. AT LEAST SHE STOOD UP FOR WHAT SHE BELIEVED
You know I read about this on another blog and all the comments were racist against the Black student, as if she wanted or asked to be discriminated against. The Black student was wrong for fighting but I understand why. The White students were also wrong on many levels and for them not to understand their insensitivity is even more disturbing. The white students ignorance is a learned behavior maybe after this incident their more enlighten.
WoW that is reallyweird because black people have been calling each other that name since day1 and the answer was black can call each other that name and its doesnt mean anything. As a matter of fact Jayz and Kanye have a song call N in Paris and was sang by everyone no one complain because its two black saying that name. I am one of those people who hates when black people call each other that name no matter because if another race call black people that name its a uproar please. First of alll that girl should have go to the principal when her teammates did not stop saying the n word so she was wrong period to fight that girl. black people have been calling each other names for so long so its so wrong when people repeat that word to them please stop the madness and start respecting each other.

What is the world coming to for people to think violence equal violence is okay just like that mcdonalds worker that beat those women like dogs and people was actually giving this man praise . even through those girls was wrong in every job they teach u to go to your supervisor and this girl is no different when people respect each other without violence this world will be so much better but thats not going to happen. so that girl was wrong to choke and fight that girl slavery mentally is stll running rampantly in the community people stop the violence .
