Jay-Z’s Roc Nation was created as part of a 150-million-dollar partnership with Live Nation in 2008. In a statement, Jay-Z said Roc Nation’s new deal with Universal Music Group will present a “unique opportunity” for the label’s artists to continue to operate as an independent label with the strength, power and reach of what he called “the best major.”
Jay-Z’s music festival is returning to Philadelphia for a second year. The two-day, multi-artist Made In America event will once again occupy the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, this year from August 31st through September 1st. The artist lineup is expected to be announced on April 10th via Spotify. Last year’s event included Jay-Z himself, Pearl Jam, Drake, Run D.M.C., Passion Pitt and a surprise appearance from Kanye West. Sponsored by Budweiser, some of the proceeds from the show’s 2012 ticket sales were donated to the United Way and several local charities in the Philadelphia area.
