That’s because a new study reveals the disease is more aggressive in men than it is in women when diagnosed in the same stages.

Dr. Robert Mocharnuk with the Simmons Cancer Institute in Springfield, Illinois says part of the reason is because men don’t know what to look for.

He says there are plenty of resources available to women but because the disease is rare in males, they don’t tend to pay attention.

Mocharnik says some males are more at risk for the disease, including those who have enlarged breasts and those taking females hormones to treat other diseases. He says the study indicates doctors and men need to incorporate the preventative measures into yearly check-ups.
