This morning, Joint Base Andrews was placed on lockdown after reports an active shooter on Maryland’s military base surfaced. The base is about 20 miles from Washington D.C. and hosts aircraft used by President Barack Obama.
The base had an active shooter exercise planned for the day, but right before 9 a.m. reports came in about a real shooter being on the base at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility. All personnel were advised to take shelter.
The Air Force base’s official Twitter page tweeted: “JBA is currently on lockdown due to a report of an active shooter. All personnel are directed to shelter in place.”
But around 10:30 a.m., the lockdown was called off after someone mistook the drill for an actual shooting. Two personnel were walking around the base carrying long rifles when someone in the medical center spotted them and called police, not realizing that they were just setting up for the drill.
Joint Base Andrews also made headlines for another lockdown last month after a woman walked onsite saying she was carrying a bomb.
An investigation is still ongoing, but at least no one is injured. This news comes just under three weeks after the mass shooting in Orlando. which left our country in such disarray.
This is a developing story.
