NeNe Leakes of “Real Housewives Of Atlanta” fame is moving on up in the world; it just so happens that Ryan Murphy, creator of hit FOX television show “Glee” is a big fan of her work on “Housewives” and has not only given her a role in “Glee,” but has casted her for his new NBC sitcom, “The New Normal” which premiers tonight on NBC.Â
In an interview with BET, Leakes spoke on her lifelong desire to be an actress:
“I’ve always wanted to be an actress and so I couldn’t be happier. Every year for New Years I write down all of my goals and dreams and put them in my Bible. At the end of the year I go and pull the paper out and check this off and check that off. So it feels really good to be living my dream. I’m honored to be doing it.”
She also spoke on the stereotypical portrayal of African-American women on reality TV and her desire to break the mold:
“There are so many reality shows on now where they want you to be crazy, the girls are just going bananas; you know how they portray brown girls. They portray us in a different type of light. I would love to be a guest on a talk show or a panel that shows women who have been on reality shows who’ve had success, to prove to audiences that you don’t have to be a fool to become successful.”
Much respect to NeNe for achieving her dreams and speaking the truth! For fans of “Real Housewives,” never fear, NeNe is here; Leakes will be returning for season five of the series. She is a busy woman these days, splitting her time between three jobs on opposite coasts, and we wish her luck in her travels. Do you think it will become more common for African-American reality TV stars to move into traditional acting roles? Is NeNe paving the way for things to come?
