Over the weekend I had the opportunity to support and capture images at the 2nd Annual Alpha Derby presented by the Alphas of Atlanta. As a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc I had to show my support to this worthwhile cause and celebrate the aspects of charity, scholarship, and flyness of the Kentucky Derby. We took over the City Club of Buckhead and we are FLY.
Check out the details after the break.
The Alphas of Atlanta, Inc, a collective of the eight (8) graduate chapters based on the metro-Atlanta area, hosted their second annual #AlphaDerby series on May 6-7, 2016. The Kentucky Derby themed event is a desination weekend series designed to support the efforts of seven (7) metro-Atlanta nonprofits and their efforts for service and outreach to emerging communities for elementary, middle, and high schools.
This year’s Alpha Derby had over 1300 patrons which is an increase of nearly 50% in regards to last year’s inaugural efforts. The weekend itinerary includes their kickoff event at the Intercontinental Buckhead Hotel (3315 Peachtree Road NE in Atlanta) on May 6, 2016 from 7pm-12am, which includes a live band, dj, and cigar ettiquette class (the class starts at 8pm). The main function takes place at the City Club of Buckhead (3343 Peachtree Road NE in Atlanta); the sold-out and ticketed only event includes multiple levels, multiple dj’s, live band, select vendors, a silent auction, and full screenings of the Kentucky Derby in an indoor-outdoor setting.
Last year’s efforts generated over $20,000 in donations to multiple nonproits. Their goal is to raise over $40,000 in support for the 2016 edition. Likewise, with patrons traveling from Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and even Italy, it is one of the fastest-growing events of the spring and arguably the year. The event sells out fast so if you missed the 2016 edition be sure to check us out next year by visiting www.alphaderbyparty.com and following us on social media at @alpha_derby.
The evening was so much fun and I had the chance to capture it all via my camera. Check out the fun we had in the images below:
