PHOTOS: Music Pioneer Charles Pope of The Tams Laid to Rest, Family & Friends Pay Respect

DSC_0048My girl Tameka “Tiny” Harris celebrated the life of her loving father Mr. Charles Pope on last week at New Life Baptist Church in Decatur Ga. Mr. Charles Pope led an extraordinary life that consisted of love and music. He left a great impact on everyone who got a chance to know him and love his music.

DSC_0950 I was invited by Dianne Pope who stood by her husband’s side as his health declined and he battled Alzehimers Disease. Mama Dianne is a wonderful and courageous lady and has always looked out and showed love to me and what I do. She went above and beyond the call of duty when it came to taking care of Mr. Pope in his last days. This is the standard of what being a loving wife and mother is all about. Mama Dianne is truly a wonderful lady.

The family was surrounded by family, close friends including Kandi Burruss and Toya Wright and hundreds of adoring fans/well wishers.

Mr. Pope was pioneer in the music industry. He helped to create opportunities that artists are enjoying today. He inspired Tiny (HIS PRINCESS) on her musical journey and we absolutely love him for that!

About:

THE TAMS have been entertaining and thrilling audiences for over 50 years! Known for such hits as “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy”, “What Kind of Fool”, “I’ve Been Hurt” and “Untie Me”, The Tams have had 2 Gold Records, and 1 Platinum Single. “What Kind of Fool” hit #9 on the Billboard charts, and #6 on the R&B charts. “Hey Girl Don’t Bother Me” hit #1 in the UK in 1971. While “Be Young, Be Foolish” only hit #26 on the Top 40, the single sold over 1,000,000 copies, sending it to Platinum status. In 1986, “Ain’t Nothin Like Shaggin’ ” hit #6 in UK Billboard charts, before being banned due to the UK’s definition of “shag”. Though their style of music has historically been referred to as Beach Music, it can be also classified as a mixture of Smooth Soul, and R&B.  Their show is fun, fresh and exciting and appeals to audiences of all ages and musical tastes.

Check out Mr. Pope and  THE TAMS in action below:

What an awesome legacy. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
