I am a huge supporter of Hosea Feed the Hungry and I had the privilege of taking part in the organization’s First Annual Media Brunch. Mr and Mrs Omilami are making tremendous moves in the City of Atlanta aiding the homeless and working poor with food, resources, and hope as they expand their services. Doing GOOD in the hood is the mantra of Hosea Feed the Hungry’s newest initiative called “Hosea Helps”. I had the opportunity to get my grub on and learn all about the awesome things that Mr. and Mrs. O are doing for the good people of the A. I even had the chance to catch up with my girls Porsha and Lauren Williams as they supported the new initiative. Porsha wowed the crowd with her testimony of life as a member of the working class.
On Saturday June 27, 2015 “Hosea Helps” (a.k.a Hosea Feed The Hungry and Homeless) hosted its first annual VIP Media brunch to officially kick off the rebranding campaign and unveil upcoming initiatives. The event took place in “The Viewing Room” at the Georgia Pacific Center, located at 133 Peachtree Street, Atlanta GA. Guests of the press enjoyed good breakfast, drinks, and lively conversation.
Porsha Williams of Dish Nation, Demarco Morgan of 11 Alive, and Poetic Performer Hank Stewart, attendees included representatives from Atlanta’s premier media outlets including 11 Alive, WSBTV, V103, The Rickey Smiley Show, Atlanta & Company, BE Magazine, my blog FreddyO, and many more. Also in attendance were some of Hosea Helps’ top corporate sponsors including Aetna, the title sponsor and Kanner & Pintaluga. Guests enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment, networking, food and fun. Porsha Williams passionatly spoke about the importance of Hosea Helps. She shared pieces of her work with the organization and how the working poor is a real phenomeon in our country. She shared her own struggle with money and how people don’t realize a girl who looks pulled together can be a member of the working poor. Mrs. Omilami rounded out the day with a passionate call to action motivating Atlanta to help our homeless and be more concious of the working poor.
The purpose of the event was to kick-off the rebranding campaign for Hosea Helps along with bringing awareness to the Hosea Helps’ initiatives, informing the public that the organization helps all year, not just during the holiday season. The organization not only offers food for the homeless but provides assistance for the working poor such a rent and housing assistance, job readiness, and assistance with utilities. Since 1971 the organization has provided a number of services such as medical support, transportation, nutritional services and more to Atlanta families. It is the goal of the organization to inspire citizens nationwide to lend a hand to those in their communities.
The next major event held by Hosea Helps will be the Back-To- School Jamboree taking place in July,12, 2015. The Jamboree will provide backpacks to children filled with school supplies including paper, pencils and more. Donations to the Back-To-School Jamboree are currently being accepted. The Back-To-School wish list can be found on the organization’s web site at www.4hosea.org. To find out how you can get involved please call Hosea Helps at 404-755-3353.
