Last night actress Rayven-Symone sat down with Oprah and told her that she no longer wants to be labeled! The “That’s So Raven” star made that comment in reference to her sexuality. She followed up with that statement by applying her feelings to being labeled an “African-American,” which has caused a buzz on Twitter!
Symone discussed with the Oprah her relationship with her partner and how she was always taught by her family to keep her personal life private! This was also the first time that Symone addresses her tweet from 2013:
She explains, “I don’t want to be labeled gay, I want to be a human who loves humans.” Then she goes on to say that she does not want to be “African-American.”I am an American! Not an African-American! I am an American.” This comment even had Oprah telling her that there were going to be issues on Twitter based off of that statement. And of course, Black Twitter began explaining how they felt some type of way in 140 characters or less!
Check out a clip of her interview below:
Personally, I agree with Rayven-Symone about her comments about “labels.” Everyone always gets to wrapped up in being labeled or catergorized; therefore, I understood where she was coming from. However, her excuse as to why she does not want to be labeled African-American was concerning! What are your thoughts? Comment below!
