BET has announced that Rev. Al Sharpton will be honored with the Humanitarian Award at the upcoming BET Awards 12, for his commitment to politic activism and social reform. As the Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), a not-for-profit civil rights organization headquartered in Harlem, NY, with over 47 Chapters nationwide, Sharpton continues to raise awareness about civil rights and political issues, and actively takes a stand against prejudice and injustice for all people—no matter one’s race, gender, sexual orientation or political affiliation. Previous BET AWARDS Humanitarian Award winners who have been honored for their philanthropic efforts toward charitable causes, are Steve Harvey, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, Quincy Jones, Don Cheadle, Harry Belafonte, Denzel Washington, Pauletta Washington, Danny Glover, Magic Johnson and Muhammad Ali.
