Let me just start by saying that the 4 minutes of spotlight that Jesse Williams was allotted had the potential to change someone’s life. While he was speaking last night I was speechless as I’m sure many others were. The truth was reiterated time and time again in Jesse’s speech at the BET Awards when he was presented with the Humanitarian Award.

Jesse started his speech off strong and humble, saying that the award was not just for him but the struggling people all over the world. He gave special and much needed recognition to the African-American women and mothers of the world because he realizes that they are rarely appreciated daily for everything they go through. Beyond this he goes into talking about the racial dynamics of this country and the breakdown of where it all starts.
Yes, African-Americans were oppressed (and still are) and our ancestors fought to get us out of oppression so why do we continue to do the dirty work for them by oppressing ourselves? His speech was honestly a s for everyone to wake up because it i so much bigger than making money and throwing a couple of name brands on your body.
Look at the bigger picture!
I strongly urge everyone to take 4 valuable minutes of your life and analyze each bullet that Jesse hits in his speech, it is amazing.
Btw, Jesse graduated from Temple University which is my school! Great minds really do think alike, that gives me so much hope for the future!
