Two lawsuits concerning the rights to a Tupac Shakur movie have been dismissed. Los Angeles Superior Court judge Richard Rico granted the motion to dismiss the lawsuits last week after getting wind of a tentative agreement between the rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur and Morgan Creek Productions. The legal battle began in 2009 when the production company filed suit against Shakur’s Amaru Entertainment, claiming she reneged on a deal to produce a biopic about her son.
A month later, Shakur filed a ten-million-dollar countersuit claiming Morgan Creek deceived her into keeping negotiations open while they weighed the performance of “Notorious,” a film about Tupac’s late rap rival the Notorious B.I.G.
The tentative agreement between Shakur and Morgan Creek reportedly includes a, quote, “complex film agreement to produce a major motion picture about the life of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur.” The settlement also allows for Tupac’s music to be used in the film.
