Brutal attacks days apart of two elderly women have police seeking suspects and calling on the public to turn in tips.
An 84-year-old woman was assaulted Saturday after two suspects broke in her home in the 1000 block of Lansing (Detroit) on the city’s southwest side, said Sgt. Eren Stephens of the Detroit Police Department. She was hospitalized in temporary serious condition. Police were awaiting word from the hospital if she was sexually assaulted, Stephens said “You feel absolutely helpless,” said the woman’s son, who isn’t being named to protect the identity of a possible victim of a sexual assault. Late Thursday or early Friday, a 90-year-old woman was raped in her home in the 4000 block of Leslie on the city’s west side after two suspects forced their way in, Stephens said. She was found after her grandson checked on her. It wasn’t yet clear if anything was stolen. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. “You don’t know what to do,” said the son of the 84-year-old. “These guys are still out there.” This is a crying shame. Whoever, violated these women should be stoned at public town meeting.
