Police in Virginia Beach, Virginia were not happy with an April Fool’s Day prank that involved hip-hop star 50 Cent. Last Thursday, radio station Z104 announced that “Fif” would be shooting a video at Mount Trashmore that night. The announcement caused such a large buzz through the community that the city of Virginia Beach had to take to its Twitter page to deny the report. They wrote, quote, “Hi folks! 50 Cent will NOT be @ Mt. Trashmore this evening. The supposed video shoot was an April Fool’s Day prank by a local radio station.” Virginia Beach police officer Adam Bernstein says that while no one was hurt, such a prank has the potential to be dangerous.
Bernstein told WAVY News Channel 10, quote, “It was a joke and we appreciate that. But, as a police department we have to worry about crowd control and traffic, even if it is a hoax you might have thousand of people show up anyway.” Fifty Cent is currently overseas touring through Europe. He will be performing at Moscow, Russia’s B1 Maximum Club tonight.
