The Great Recession has hit Latinos and blacks particularly bad with the Associated Press reporting that whites worth 18 times as much as Latinos and 20 times as much as blacks! Decades worth of progress have been erased in this recession and so-called “recovery.” White wealth is more directly tied to investments, savings and 401ks, which means their wealth is directly related to the rebound of the stock market; while young blacks and Latinos are more likely to have invested in housing, which took a direct hit in this recession.

While the wealth of all Americans took a hit, the black wealth declined 53 percent from $12,124 in 2005 to $5,677 in 2009, and Latino wealth fell by 66 percent from $18,359 to $6,325. White wealth clocks in at a whopping $113,149.
