Wyclef Jean Speaks Out Asking For Prayers & Help For Haiti & Earthquake Victims

Haitian-born recording artist Wyclef Jean is asking the public for their prayers and support for those affected by a powerful earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday. In a statement sent to GlobalGrind.com Tuesday, the former Fugees rapper said, quote, “I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.” Wyclef is asking the public to donate through a text message campaign organized through his Yele foundation, established to assist his Haiti homeland.

Wyclef says five-dollars will be automatically donated to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund through those who use their cell phones to text “Yele” to 501501. The public can also visit www.Yele.org to make a donation. The magnitude seven-point-oh earthquake struck near Haiti’s capital of Port-au-Prince. There were several strong aftershocks. President Obama has pledged U.S. assistance to Haiti. Here are some pictures from Haiti..
