The only American play of real merit in the late nineteenth century was "Uncle Tom's Cabin." Uncle Tom's Cabin was released on June 5, 1851 to April 1, 1852. It was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, an American author. It was written to help the "groundwork" for the Civil War.
