  • Slope-Intercept Form: [tex] y=mx+b [/tex] , with m = slope and b = y-intercept
  • Slope Formula: [tex] \frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} [/tex]
  • Point-Slope Form: [tex] y-y_1=m(x-x_1) [/tex] , with m = slope and [tex] (x_1,y_1) [/tex] as a coordinate.

So currently, this equation is in slope-intercept form. In this form, we see that a is the slope and the y-intercept is (0,b). Using this info, put (0,b) and (x,y) into the slope formula and have it equal to a:

[tex] \frac{y-b}{x-0}=a\\\frac{y-b}{x}=a [/tex]

For this, multiply both sides by x and your point-slope form will be: [tex] y-b=a(x) [/tex]
