The system is the Georgia Land Lotteries. The process was very simple, qualifying citizens were able to register their names in their country of residence and subsequently the names were sent to the Governor's office. All the names were copied in papers and placed in a wheel where chance determined the winner. The winner could be the owner of the land that could be from 40 acres (0.2 km2) to 490 acres (2.0 km2). In total, 8 lotteries were held from 1805 to 1833.
