In novels falling action is often followed by the ending. Rising action leads to the climax, which is then followed by falling action. The falling action ties up the narrative, making way for the ending to wrap up the novel. Falling action can be described as the link between the climax, which resolves the conflicts in the plot, and the ending, which closes out the novel. Typically, the resolution, unlike the name implies, does not end the novel, but instead resolves conflicts - often in conjunction with or immediately after the climax.
