In the article “Untouchable No More” Ashok Khade faced problems related to being a social outcaste, or an “untouchable”. In school Khade was required to sit lower than his peers, he was not allowed to pray inside of the local temple, and he was not allowed to drink from the local well. He endured these things because it was said that untouchables were “spiritually unclean” with the ability to “pollute” other social classes.
