The massacre in Sharpeville resulted in the killing of 69 demonstrators and injuring of over 300 others when the Afrikana police deliberately shot protestors outside the police station in a hail of submachine guns. After this incidence Nelson Mandela the Apartheid leader was convinced that his non-violent approach was not working; thus he resulted in organizing small paramilitary groups to fight the South African Apartheid regime which was racially segregated.
