In this system the Native Americans were housed in places far from civilization. This caused a sense of revolt and sadness, for the natives who were the first inhabitants of the land had their invaded land taken and were then driven from their own land to a place that was far enough away from.

They didn't see themselves as part of society  and the Americans did not regard them either.

This set them apart from society so that they would remain in their communities and not socialize with outsiders, although this has now changed. The principle remains the same
