I'm comparing and contrasting "The Black Ball" by Ralph Ellison and "Why, You Reckon" by Langston Hughes. I have to compare and contrast the theme of disillusionment of man between the two short stories. I don't know where to start...

Answer:

The best way to do this is to read both books.

Explanation:

In other to successfully compare and contrast two book, the best thing to do is to get a book and a pen and put down important points and information while reading the books. For example, in the book, Black ball, things to note could be the theme of the book, the major message the author wishes to pass acros in the book, the protagonist actions in the book and the message the book tries to pass (Is it about love, relationship, social injustices e.t.c).

So therefore, in the disillusion of the man in both books, start from what lead the man to be disillusioned?, Who or what triggered it?, what was his state befor he became disillusioned? and who tried to see him through out of his disillusionment?.
