King and Civil Rights
Read this excerpt from one of Martin Luther King's
speeches. What method of protest is he
advocating for in this speech?
O writing letters to people in positions of power
O nonviolent resistance
O the use of force, but only if necessary
We are here, we are here this evening because
we are tired now. And I want to say that we
are not here advocating violence. I want it to
be known throughout Montgomery and
throughout this nation that we are Christian
people .... The only weapon that we have in
our hands this evening is the weapon of
protest.
