In 'to kill a mockingbird' Atticus's quest to appeal Tom's case was not successfully accomplished as Tom was brutally killed as he tried to escape prison been shot seventeen times. This is aside the fact that Tom was wrongly accused in the first place even though the jury were made to see the truth of Tom's innocence when Atticus prove that Tom's accusation was a lie.
