The Call of the Wild draws heavily on Jack London's own experience during the Klondike Gold Rush. Consider the following question: What would it be like to live in a society without rules? Imagine a world that is wild. Characters compete for resources, so trust could be dangerous. What is your character expecting and feeling? Your response should be about 150 words.

Answer and Explanation:

In world where no one can be trusted, my character chooses to be on her own. Since she has tasted betrayal before – and thankfully survived -, she no longer intends to let others in so easily. She keeps her distance, watching groups and individuals, learning their patterns, their way of thinking. She collects only what is necessary and useful. Whenever she feels she is at a safe place, she takes her time to rest and develop her skills, so that no situation will be too surprising for her to react. My character knows death comes early in this world. She does not expect to live long enough to grow old, like people used to a long time ago. However, she does not intend to go without a fight. It’s as if the basic instinct of surviving has awakened. She knows the same goes for everyone else in this world. Society is dead; rules and morals are a distant reality now. Fear, on the other hand, is everyone’s constant companion. But she has learned to enjoy fear. It opens one’s eyes, prepares them for the inevitable.
