Indigenous Peoples were largely segregated to reservations located in the Western states, with a few in the Eastern states (East of the Mississippi). Local governments often sponsored armed conflicts between European colonists and the Native Americans.

African Americans in the South were subject to repression, voting disenfranchisement, segregation, and even violence. The Jim Crow laws are a test of this. This is why many of them migrated to industrial cities in the North like NYC, Philadelphia, Chicago and Detroit, were they fared better, but still suffered from racism and discrimination.
