Britten used a variety of instruments from different families and changed the traditional order. He started with the woodwinds, then strings, then brass, and percussion. He started with the highest pitched instruments in each of the families. This made the differences in the timbers of different sections of the orchestra more clear.  

The composer might have chosen to use different sections of the orchestra to play at different times to convey different sounds or emotions. Playing at different times does this by putting the spotlight on a specific group of instruments this helps build variety and expense through the peice of music

This piece helps me gain a better understanding of the orchestra by letting me hear the different parts and get a better all around understanding of what they were about this helps quite a bit long term as we are then able to identify when this or a similar orchestra are playing in the future
