Answer: d. life could not exist on earth.
Water is the chief abiotic (non-living) component of the environment.Water is important substance on earth. Both living and non- living components requires water. Water for non- living components like soil is important as without water soil will remain compact, it will lack moisture hence, will not be suitable for plant growth. In air water remains as water vapor and responsible for rain. Water is necessary to conduct cellular processes in living being. Water is the solvent which dissolves in it minerals and nutrients, hence acts as a medium to transfer them from cell to cell and to external environment. As, life on earth is interdependent on biotic and abiotic factors therefore, without water life will not sustain on earth.
