If scientists study the forest around the crater of Poas volcano, they could learn how the living organisms their survive and adopt to the environment present in that area. Poas volcano is above the frost line, and temperatures below freezing are possible. Nearly constant winds and saturating humidity contribute to biting cold at the rim.
