If the friction block was placed on a smoother, more slippery surface there would be less friction. If it was placed on a rougher surface there would be more fiction. If the block was placed on a different side the results would vary depending on factors such as surface area and texture of the block. This is why roads are made of asphalt because of its rough surface, which creates more  fiction so vehicles don’t lose traction.
